The Fox deal comes after premium cable nets have pulled back from the streaming service.

Last week, Starz Entertainment said it would delay original programming, starting with the April 1 premiere of period drama Camelot, and eventually first-run movies for days. Separately, Showtime said past seasons of currently airing shows like Dexter will be pulled off Netflix this summer.

Netflix, however, has maintained that its strategy is primarily to provide a large selection of TV and movie content — rather than to provide immediate access to content currently.

Previously, Netflix’s streaming agreement with Fox made a prior seasons of TV shows available watch instantly including Lie to Me, , Prison Break, Arrested Development, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and X-Files.

“Our expanded nonexclusive streaming arrangement with Netflix maintains Fox’s flexibility to effectively manage both the content we offer, and the appropriate window of availability relative to our other distribution partnerships,” Fox Filmed Entertainment president of new media and digital distribution Peter Levinsohn said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Netflix and our other partners to further enhance the choices available to audiences.”

Netflix has more than 20 million members in U.S. and Canada. Its streaming-only option is $7.99 per month for unlimited access to more than 20,000 movies and TV episodes streamed over the Internet to PCs, Macs and more than different connected devices.

While cable and satellite TV operators have feared Internet-distributed video would erode their subscriber rolls, there’s still no sign Netflix or online video is leading to any significant amount of “cord-cutting.” Overall, .3% of ,287 U.S. households surveyed canceled pay-TV service in the past year and don’t plan to subscribe again in the next six months, according to consumer research from Leichtman Research Group.

On the other hand, about % of multichannel video subscribers surveyed said they’re likely to reduce spending in the next six months — but Netflix users and people who watch lots of online video are just as likely as others to be looking to reduce the cost of their TV service, according to LRG.

Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Begins

We’ve got a short spring and a long, hot summer to get through before Sons of Anarchy comes back into our lives on a weekly basis. Sure, there are plenty of blogs to read, podcasts to listen to and we have seasons 1 & 2 on dvd to curb the cravings. But lots of us want new info. NOW.

The problem is that there just isn’t a lot of it out there right now.

But I’ll happily share what I know:

Kurt Sutter and crew are currently hashing out the arc for the upcoming season. We left off in season 3 with our boys in the slammer for 14 months and it sounds like season 4 we’ll be coming back to  the club with fresh eyes and a new perspective.

Sutter wrote on his blog, “A lot can happen in fourteen months, especially in prison.  Loyalties, trust and friendships can take odd turns when you are living in a cage.” He promises that his writers are “firing on all cylinders and we’re coming up with some very cool, very crazy fucking shit.”

We can expect “three new characters on SOA this season. the good, the bad and the ugly.” April MacIntyre (@AprilMac) of Monster & Critics was tipped off by Sutter on Twitter that Peter Weller, best known as Robocop and recently as Stan Liddy on Dexter, will be directing an episode as well.

“Who dies in season 4?” Sutter teased on Twitter. He quickly made light of that tweet, following up with “i’m sorry, that was a typo… it was supposed to read, “who dips in season 4?” skoal is a new sponsor. my bad.” and “i’m sorry, that was a typo… it was supposed to read, “who dicks in season 4?” trojan is a new sponsor. my bad.” Funny guy.

Production for season 4 begins on May 23rd, so it appears that we’ll be seeing the new season air sometime in September, just like previous seasons.

That’s a good question, but most likely right before the new season begins. Sutter informed us that the season 3  DVD will most likely be released in late summer, just before S4 premier. Apparently it always happens that way because all DVD launches draw from new season’s budget. There will be 3 “creator’s cuts” for the S3 DVD, adding in footage that got cut for time or sex/violence content.
